If you’re expecting a baby right now, chances are your life already revolves around preparing for them.
Nursery plans.
Registry lists.
Doctor appointments.
Tiny clothes appearing in drawers.
Literally everyone asking about the baby!
There’s so much to do before your baby arrives that maternity photos can start to feel like one more thing on an already overwhelming list. A lot of mamas don’t feel it’s worth the headache and skip them …
PLUS for a lot of expecting mothers, the idea of stepping in front of the camera during this season can also bring up a lot of complicated feelings. Not all of us feel our best when we’ve been growing a baby inside our bodies for eight months.

When women reach out about maternity sessions, I often hear some version of the same thoughts:
“I feel like I waited too long.”
“I’m so big now.”
“I don’t really feel like myself in my body.”
“Nothing fits or looks good.”
“There’s just so much to do before the baby gets here.”
Listen, this is a time Big Ol’ change, just as much in our bodies as in our hearts and in our homes. But here’s the deal and what I try to refocus mamas on every time I offer a maternity session:
Soon your days will revolve around feeding schedules, sleepy snuggles and learning the rhythm of life with a newborn.
Soon your phone will be filled with photos of tiny hands, tiny feet and all the moments that come with welcoming a new life into your family.
But this moment?
This moment still belongs to you.
The woman standing on the edge of motherhood.
The last chapter before everything shifts.
Maternity photos aren’t just about documenting a baby bump. They’re about honoring the transformation that’s already happening within you.
The anticipation.
The connection between you and your partner.
The life you’ve built together before your baby joins it.
I want you to be able to curl up with your kid one day, paging through a well loved and worn album and say with heartfelt honestly, “Look, this is who we were when we created you. When we were the people who knew you would complete our family. Look at the love you were brought into.”
When I plan a maternity session, I’m not just thinking about the baby you’re expecting.
I want to know about you.
What makes you feel most like yourself right now?
Are you the kind of couple who loves quiet evenings curled up on the couch?
Do you spend your weekends hiking, exploring or camping outdoors?
Are you happiest surrounded by books, music or wide open spaces?
Your maternity photos should reflect the life you’re living in this moment and the people you are before your world expands to include your child.
My goal is always for you to feel beautiful, grounded and like yourself during your session. Not overly posed or styled, but comfortable, connected and fully present in this season.
Every maternity session I photograph is designed around who you are, the life you’re living, the path you’ve walked.
When you say “we’re laid back, outdoor people” I’m all in! Let’s find a gorgeous glass fronted tent and wear cozy clothes on a rainy afternoon. Yes! Bring those knitted baby booties your mom made and brought over from Iceland.
If you’re an indoors, curl up the couch, couple, let’s connect in your living room.
The goal is always the same: creating photographs that feel natural, meaningful and personal to your story.
When your session reflects your real life, the images carry so much more depth and emotion.
And it’s those photos, those images that carry those stories that you’ll be able to share with your kid one day.

Maternity sessions are typically scheduled during the late second or early third trimester, when your bump is beautifully visible but you’re still feeling comfortable moving and exploring.
Because while it will be all about your baby soon enough…
this moment still belongs to you.
