One of the biggest reasons many newborn photographers work out of studios is simple: newborn photography involves a lot of stuff.
Unless a photographer works exclusively in a lifestyle approach — where parents are mostly holding and snuggling baby and sessions are mostly candid — traditional newborn photography often includes wrapped poses, gentle positioning and curated details. In a studio, this looks like walls lined with color-coordinated wraps, shelves stacked with baskets and bowls, cushioned posing tables, bean bags, lighting umbrellas and more.
It’s beautiful and very involved.
So how does that translate when your newborn photographer comes to you?
Every Atlanta in-home newborn photographer approaches this a little differently. What’s brought into your space depends on the photographer’s style, the types of images being created and the family’s preferences.
For me, I don’t work exclusively posed and I don’t work exclusively lifestyle. My approach blends the two — organic, real moments alongside softly styled newborn portraits.
Instead of transporting an entire studio, my styling inventory is stored at home and curated intentionally for each session. Based on your newborn questionnaire and our conversations, I select a small collection of wraps, swaddles, textures and simple props that align with your baby, your home and the overall feeling you’re drawn to.
Before I’ve stepped foot in your home, we’ve connected several times.
(I love having a quick FaceTime chat during the process so I can see the aesthetics and lighting of your space. It’s the quickest and most accurate way to plan your baby’s styled sets with intention in a way that guarantees they’ll go well with your vibe.)
Curated styling pieces
A thoughtfully selected set of wraps, swaddles and minimal props chosen specifically for your session. The goal is to complement your home, not transform it into a studio. (Confession, I get really excited and tend to “overpack” so I often bring a bit more than is needed but try not to go overboard…)
Professional lighting support
Natural window light is always my starting point. When needed, I bring professional lighting to enhance what’s already there while keeping the images soft, cozy and true to your space.
Experience and safety training
The most important thing I bring isn’t visible. From safe newborn positioning and reading baby cues to infant CPR training and maintaining a clean environment, your baby’s comfort and safety guide every decision during your session.

To keep your in-home newborn session calm and flexible, I recommend having just a few things ready:
Baby dressed in something neutral or just a diaper to start
Fresh diapers and burp cloths nearby
Feeding supplies ready, whether nursing or bottle
Any sentimental outfits or items you’d like included
A pacifier on hand, even if you don’t plan to use one long-term — it can be incredibly helpful during the session
That’s it. No deep cleaning, no elaborate setup and no pressure for perfection.
In-home newborn photography in Atlanta is about meeting families where they are — literally and emotionally — and creating images that feel both polished and deeply personal. If you’re expecting and wondering if in-home newborn photos are right for your family, I discuss that a bit more HERE.
